The Former President's System of Punishment and Favor

The ex-president's insatiable appetite for revenge has quickly evolved into a structured framework. Within the year since his election, the leader's anger and whims have assumed the form of administrative measures in ways reminiscent to historical authoritarian systems. Government figures who resist his demands are summarily removed and succeeded by devotees. Opposing leaders who question him risk indictment, court proceedings and penalties. Critics have been designated under executive memoranda as “unpatriotic”, “anti-Christian” and “against free markets”, and warned with legal action as “extremists”.

Government Institutions Remade

Each instance involving legal action of political opponents and immunity for his allies displays its own unique qualities. However, despite their individual form, they represent manifestations of what has emerged as a calculated approach. These episodes are not coincidental. Trump's purge of Department of Justice attorneys and law enforcement agents, alongside his placement of loyalists in high-level positions, started rapidly, soon developed a consistency, and has now been shaped into a system. DoJ and the FBI have been restructured into partisan organizations under the president's direct orders to implement his wishes. Injustice has been turned into standard. It constitutes the system of punishment.

Leadership is focused with targeting the President's perceived enemies than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Within the System

The origin of this system has been revealed in the legal complaint of three ex- high-ranking law enforcement officials submitted in late summer in the US district court in Washington against agency head a senior appointee and attorney general Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a initiative of retribution against the officials for what administration figures judged to be a failure to show sufficient political loyalty”. The document states that a former acting director, the ex- interim leader, describes a discussion in which Patel “publicly admitted the unlawfulness of his behavior”.

Driscoll had attempted to shield agency personnel from being dismissed, the filing alleges. Patel told him that “administration officials” – understood by the official to be the presidential administration and DoJ – had directed him to dismiss all those who they determined as having worked on a legal probe against Trump. The complaint continues: “Patel explained that he had to dismiss the people his leaders told him to remove, because his chance to retain his own role depended on the dismissal of the officials who worked on matters involving the chief executive. The director noted that there was no option he or Driscoll could do to stop these or any other firings, because ‘the agency sought to place the chief in prison and he hasn't forgotten it.’” Once the official advised the director he was disregarding the agency's own regulations, the director reportedly said “he recognized that and he realized the character of the summary firings were likely unlawful”.

Widespread Impact

Following his alleged confession to him, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been weakened and repurposed for his retribution system. Six of the FBI's senior executives were dismissed or forced out in the first days of the government. Roughly thousands of lawyers at the department have accepted a “early exit scheme”. At least multiple DoJ lawyers, among them those in the Manhattan division, stepped down in dissent over what they considered as ideological pressure in withdrawing the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, Eric Adams, in return for his assistance with the administration's federal agency roundups of migrants. The public integrity section of DoJ, which manages corruption cases, has been reduced to a handful of lawyers. The equality section has been devastated: 70% of its personnel has left. One-third of executives at DoJ have quit. The unit implementing ecological regulations has experienced the exit of a majority its supervisors.

Incentives and Penalties

Regarding the mayor's situation, the temporary lawyer for the NY office, she, resigned in objection against what she described as the “exchange”. The border official, the president's “immigration leader,” was present as the agent with Adams on television to declare: “Unless he complies, I'll reappear in NYC.”. Meanwhile, a former official, earlier the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who arranged the arrangement, was granted an judicial position, a possible springboard to the highest court.

Trump's exemption for wrongdoings committed while in office, awarded by the remarkable ruling of the conservative on the judicial body, thus thwarting his prosecution over the political violence and preserving his public standing for the national vote, is the basis on which he stands to defend his stalwarts. With such immunity, he has been freed to enable misconduct. The consequence of the court judgment infuses his administration and the Republican Party completely. Trump v United States has spread.
